If you give in without fighting, the exact way you react determines your scar instead (there's some that overlap and some that are exclusive to resisting/giving in). Heartbreak's a telepath who was probably also an artificial human and tried to kill you by mind controlling you into suicide - and you were losing, so the only way you could win was to 'sacrifice a part of yourself', inflicting some massive mental trauma on yourself that the game internally refers to as your 'scar'. The reason you're so averse to trust and human contact and have a puppet is because these artifical humans are extremely obvious due to extremely visible modifications all over their body - you can't even wear short sleeved shirts without giving yourself away - these artifical humans are known to the public, just not the full extent of the program, so people would recognize them if they saw them, and they're sold to the public as non-sentient AI-like androids, not self-aware people.Īfter escaping, you tried to be a 'real person' and use your powers to be a hero incognito, but then you ran into Heartbreak. You're one of the artificial superpowered humans made by the shadowy government agency known as 'The Farm', who escaped from horrible experiments and brainwashing and faked their own death. If you want to see a clearer explanation of the MC's backstory - I'll explain - be warned that there's some book 2 spoilers and some stuff that's only clear with code diving or multiple playthroughs. Other parts become more clear on replay or if you code dive to see the guts of it. You gotta remember that this is book one of three, essentially - your backstory is a mystery, a whole lot of which is revealed in book two. Steel knows you survived, but doesn’t tell ChargeĬharge feels responsible both for not retreating and for going on ahead (if they had been there, Charge would have been able to prevent you from jumping since they are physically stronger than you) The beeping and medical stuff was you in the hospital (since you’d don’t actually die from the fall). You tried to fight the forced suicide but failed (to some degree) and (I think) there yourself from pretty high up Anathema then killed them selves by dissolving their face with acid Steel and Charge go on ahead (I assume both of them are faster than the MC and Anathema). The Hearbreak incident involves a villain who was driving people to suicideĬharge chose to intervene in the situation rather than retreating since the team seemed the best equipped to handle the situation (Charge, as an epileptic couldn’t be controlled, Steel was mostly artificial, you were a telepath, thus better defended against telekinetic attacks, Anathema was indestructible (supposedly)) ![]() ![]() So from what I can tell of the backstory,
